OSRS Desert Treasure II - The Fallen Empire Full Guide

Desert Treasure II - The Fallen Empire is the most ambitious OSRS quest released on 26 July 2023. It is a dangerous quest because the four tough bosses may kill you during the battles. So if you are an ironman, please take care.

Quest Walkthrough

Switch to the Ancient Magicks spellbook before starting the quest.

Starting

Items: Desert amulet 4 or Nardah teleport if you don't use the Fairy rings, Pickaxe (you can find a bronze pickaxe if you don't have one), Runes (take more if you want to deplete the shield using magic) to cast Blood Burst, Ice Burst, Smoke Burst, Shadow Burst, Stamina potions

1. Teleport to Nardah, then run northeast. Run southeast if you use the Fairy rings (Code: DLQ). Open the world map to check the quest start point.

2. Enter the Ancient Vault and finish the conversation.

3. Inspect the four statues and the plaque.

4. Talk to Asgarnia Smith, the archaeologist in the Vault.

5. Teleport to the Digsite (Senntisten teleport tablet) and talk to Terry Balando.

6. Go and operate the winch at the easternmost part of the Digsite.

7. Talk to Dr Banikan. (Chat 3)

8. Mine the nearby rocks. If you don't have a pickaxe, you can find a bronze one in the crate to the north.

9. Enter the crevice and defeat the Ancient Guardian. Activate Protect from Melee, and use the Melee attack style if you have a pickaxe in your inventory or the Magic attack if you take more runes to deplete its shield. Then use the Melee attack style to kill it. During the fight, whenever the Guardian rains rocks down, move to the safe tiles without the shadows to avoid the damage.

10. Finish the dialogs.

11. Go north and inspect the Golem.

12. Search the crates southwest of the Golem for 8 Uncharged cells.

13. Cast Burst spells on the matching totems in the west room.

14. Use cells on the Altar to get Charged cells.

15. Use the Charged cells on the Golem and solve the puzzle.

16. Use the Golem to search Vardorvis, Perseriya, Sucellus, and Whisperer. 

17. After searching all four, finish the dialogs, and Dr Banikan will leave.

Vardorvis

Items: Melee gear, slash weapon like a whip, Xerics Talisman, Food, Prayer Potion, Stamina potions, Lockpick, Hammer, Dramen staff

1. Go north of the winch and southeast of the Digsite barge. Talk to Elissa. (Chat 3)

2. Use Xeric's talisman to teleport to Lovakengj (Xeric's Inferno). Then run southwest to the south side of the Burning Man area (marked with the fire icon, northwest of the mining area on the world map).

3. Talk to Barus.

4. Use the Xeric's talisman to teleport to Hosidius (Xeric's Glade). Then run north towards the Estate Agent.

5. Search the desk in the house (a water icon on the world map) south of the Hosidius Estate Agent. You will get a Strange potion and Potion note. Read the note.

6. Go south of Mount Quidamortem to the boat dock (marked with a transportation icon south of the bridge on the map). The fastest way to go there is to use the Fairy ring (Code BLS). Otherwise, you can use the Lovakengj Minecart Network.

7. Drink the Strange potion and board to get to The Stranglewood.

8. Run south, then west to enter the city.

9. Finish the dialogs.

10. Search the nearby stone chest for a Tatty page.

11. Go down the entry to the northwest.

12. Defend Kasonde. Although you can defend him by building barricades, detonating satchels, and attacking them, just kill all these Strangled.

13. Go upstairs and talk to Kasonde.

14. Climb over the barricade to leave the room. Run west, then north to the northwest of the large pyramid. Pick the Korbal herb.

15. Run to the southwest beach (a small white area on the world map). Pick the Argian berries.

16. Head to the large pyramid and enter the entry.

17. Kill the Strangled and talk to Kasonde.

18. Use Korbal herb and Argian berries on the unfinished potion. Drink the serum.

19. We suggest you unlock the boss before banking for the fight. Then you can return to Vardorvis easier with the shortcut (from the path behind the large pyramid).

20. Prepare for Vardorvis. Vardorvis is weak to slash weapons like Scythe of vitur, Abyssal tentacle, and Osmumten's fang on slash.

21. After defeating Vardorvis, pick up the Temple key. Bank for Kasonde fight. You can range and kite him.

22. After defeating him, talk to him.

23. Go to the north room and search the stone chest for another Tatty page.

24. Return to the room with the barricade, where you first met Kasonde.

25. Search the stone chest in the northeast corner for Vardorvis' medallion.

26. Travel to Ancient Vault, where the quest started. Finish the dialogs and enter. Use Vardorvis' medallion on the northeast statue.

Perseriya

Items: Combat gear (based on your combat skills), Slayer helm or Facemask, Tinderbox (can be obtained during the quest), Food, Prayer potions, 2-3 Stamina potions, Necklace of passage

1. Use the Necklace of passage to teleport to the Wizard's Tower. Climb down the ladders and enter the blue Portal (next to the ladder and east of the bed in the room).

2. Talk to the Catalytic Guardian near the entrance, and select Yes to enter The Scar.

3. Kill the monsters, then cross the stepping stones to the east.

4. Continue walking to the east, and you will find a boat. Attempt to board it and talk to Wizard Persten.

5. Enter the passages marked with the dungeon icons on the map. And complete all puzzles.

Note:

The puzzles progress in any scar will save, if you leave or die, you don't need to redo the completed ones.

You can open chests for scarred scraps in all scars. Then consume them to restore your hitpoints and prayer. They also provide the stamina potion effect.

Use Protection Prayer to reduce damage from Scarred lesser demons. One scar corresponds to one protection Prayer - Protect from Melee, Magic, or Ranged.

Use transportation wisely.

Scar 1 (Use Protect from Ranged)

Puzzle - Circle Rune Puzzle (nerves)

Step 1: Break Nerve endings and combine the correct ones showing on the center. You need each of Water, Fire, Nature, Cosmic, Wrath, and Astral.

Soul - Mind + Mind

Nature - Earth + Water

Cosmic - Soul + Nature

Blood - Mind + Water

Smoke - Fire + Air

Steam - Fire + Water

Wrath - Blood + Smoke

Astral - Cosmic + Earth

Step 2: Use the correct ones on the center when they appear to kill these Abyssal creatures. Be quick before they change to another, or you will be damaged and need to create another one if using the wrong ones.

Puzzle - Green and Red Neuron

Reach and destroy the Abyssal Tether at the end of the maze.

Move neurons and keep moving and standing on a circle tile next to a Cerebral orb. When the orb is next to the other one, move to the next one quickly. Standing out of the safe tiles will damage you, and you have to restart the puzzle. There are different ways to go.

Note: Green neurons travel in the direction you are facing when you hit them. And the red ones travel in the opposite direction.

Puzzle - Repair damaged growths and find the order (turn on the Protect from Melee to avoid the damage)

Step 1: Click on the leeches to collect four Illuminating lures and repair the four damaged growths.

Step 2: Find the correct order of the six elemental lights. Click them one by one in order. If it's in the right order, it will turn white. Make all of them white to complete the puzzle.

Go to the shipwreck room and search all the skeletons and the chest. Read the old tablet and burn the ship.

Talk to Wizard Perston and start the next scar.

Scar 2 (Use Protect from Magic)

Puzzle - The order of the growths shrivel

Swim into an Air bubble to regain oxygen whenever you need it.

Step 1: Free your hands and enter the water.

Step 2: Touch the Abyssal Stem in the middle, and remember the light order of the four Abyssal Growths.

Step 3: Touch all of them one by one in the correct order to complete the puzzle.

Puzzle - Defend the Abyssal antibodies

Kill all the scared creatures when the Abyssal antibodies are healing the pillar.

Puzzle - Veins (turn on the Protect from Melee to avoid the damage)

Step 1: Collect four Illuminating lures and repair the four damaged growths.

Step 2: Kill three of each crimson and radiant creature for crimson and radiant fibre. The creatures may hit you and heal themselves, even if you are on Protect from Melee.

Step 3: Repair the veins with the correct fibre at the breakpoints.

Go to the shipwreck room and search all the skeletons and the chest. Read the old tablet and burn the ship.

Talk to Wizard Perston and start the next scar.

Scar 3 (Use Protect from Melee)

Puzzle - Axon

Some lightning will appear randomly during the puzzle. Move away from them quickly to avoid being damaged.

All you need to do it to hit the creatures to navigate them to their corresponding terminal. You can hit them diagonally or directly. You can reset it if one is stunned.

Puzzle - Summoning Circle (Protect from Melee)

Step 1: Kill the four imps.

Step 2: Kill the four demons.

Puzzle - Nerve Endings

Step 1: Free both of your hands and enter the water.

Step 2: Collect 3 Fire, 2 air, 2 earth, and 1 water.

Step 3: Create the right combination and repair the Endings.

Steam - Fire + Water

Lava - Fire + Earth

Dust - Earth + Air

Smoke - Fire + Air

Don't forget to use the air bubbles to regenerate oxygen.

Go to the shipwreck room and search all the skeletons and the chest. Read the old tablet and burn the ship.

6. After completing all puzzles, talk to Wizard Perston and bank for The Leviathan fight. After stunning it, run to its back and attack it for bonus damage and prepare for its special attack.

7. After defeating it, leave the area to the northeast and talk to Wizard Persten. Then search the debris nearby to receive Perseriya's medallion.

Note: When you obtain the second and third medallions, the Mysterious Figure may appear and attack you at any time. He also casts the teleblock spell on you. Don't AFK. Bank for two combat styles and some supplies to kill him.

8. Travel back to Ancient Vault and place Perseriya's medallion on the southeast statue.

Duke Sucellus

Ghorrock Prison

Items: Melee gear and weapon (Archlight if you have one), Food, Combat potions, Prayer potions, any pickaxe (can be obtained during the quest), Pestle and mortar (can be obtained during the quest), Icy basalt, Stamina potions

1. Teleport to Weiss and go underneath. Then enter the cave to the south. Go east and enter the room with several NPCs.

2. Attempt to enter the heavy door. After the dialogs, enter the heavy door again. Seconds later, you will find yourself in a small room. You lose all items. But no worries. You can get them back later.

3. Inspect the north wall and finish all dialogs.

4. Search the skeleton for a note, the bucket or the bed for a knife.

5. Read the note and inspect the north wall again and finish all dialogs.

6. Search the bed or the bucket until you find a lockpick.

7. Inspect the north wall the last time and finish all dialogs.

8. Finish all dialogs out of the room, and the Assassin will leave.

9. Run south and east, and go through the gate.

10. Follow the path to the northernmost and go through the gate.

11. Try to open the gate to the east and solve the puzzle.

12. Follow the southeast path to the end, then south. Go through the next gate to a room with a black square in the center.

13. Go through the gate to the south.

14. Open the chest and solve a puzzle (answer: 214013) to get a Sapphire Key.

15. Leave the room and open the sapphire gate north of the black square.

16. Run west and go through two gates. And open the gate north of the main block marked on the map.

17. Follow the path to the northwesternmost room.

18. Enter the room, open the chest, and solve the puzzle (answer: LIES) directly beside the West door. You will get an Emerald key.

19. Leave the room. From now on, Jhallan may appear and attack you. Protecting from Magic will reduce the damage. Re-entering a room or going through a gate may get him to disappear. And going through a gate may also get him to appear again.

20. Run east and south to the end. Go through the gate and unlock the crevice to the east. Squeeze through.

21. Leave the room to the east. Then open the gate directly south with some beds.

22. Open the chest (answer: UP, RIGHT, LEFT, DOWN, RIGHT, UP) in the southeast corner for a Ruby key.

23. Leave the room and go through the gate directly southwest of the room. Then go through two more gates to the west.

24. Run south, following the western path of the main block. Open the ruby gate to the west at the end.

25. Run north and enter the first room to the east. Open the chest and solve the puzzle (answer: WRATH) for a Diamond Key.

26. Run back (south, go through the Ruby gate, then north) until you find the Assassin.

27. Try to open the gate and finish all dialogs.

28. Enter the room and open the chest to retrieve your items.

29. Talk to the Assassin again. He will leave.

30. Head to the room with the black square (northwest of the text of Refugee Camp on the world map).

31. Search the pack next to the northwest angle of the black square to light the firecrackers.

32. Protect from Magic and run around the black square. Survive until the Assassin arrives. You don't need to attack it (them). Finish all dialogs.

33. Head to the northeasternmost Dragonstone gate, facing the black square.

34. Open the gate and climb down the stairs.

35. Open the gate to the north to enter the boss room. You can leave and bank for the fight after the cutscene.

36. After defeating the boss, pick up the key and leave the boss room. Open the western gate with the key and talk to the Assassin.

37. Open the chest for Sucellus' medallion.

38. Travel to the Ancient Vault and place the medallion on the southwest statue.

The Whisperer

Lassar Undercity

Items: Mage gear and weapon, Ring of Visibility, Food, Prayer potions, Lassar teleport tablets or Combat bracelets, Stamina potions, weight-reducing clothing

1. Teleport to the ice mountain with the Lassar teleport tablet. Go north and use the Agility shortcut (requires 68 Agility). Head north and enter the Camdozaal.

2. Run north most until you find Ramarno. Talk to him.

3. Talk to Prescott near the bank chest. He will give you a very long rope.

4. Run south, then north to the end. Attach the rope to the rock and climb down. Activate any teleporter you meet in the whole area for less running.

5. Run to the Sunken Cathedral (marked with a dark color in the center on the world map). Finish the dialogs to get the Blackstone fragment.

6. Run to the North Science District teleporter. From there, go to the second building to the west, and take the Shadow blocker schematic.

7. Head to the Western Residential District teleporter.

8. Use the Shadow blocker schematic on Ketla and finish the dialog (Chat 5).

9. Search the workbench to the west to get the Shadow blocker.

From now on, you need to enter the Shadow realm. Once you are in, the sanity meter will be depleted by 1% for every tick, and the ghost will also attack you to deplete your sanity meter. Use the Blackstone fragment to leave the shadow realm if you are a low insanity meter to make it refill in the normal world.

10. Acquire the Basic shadow torch.

Step 1: Use the teleporter to teleport to Northern Science District.

Step 2: From there, run south to the southernmost teleporter. Don't forget to activate it. Take the Shadow key on a table just northwest of the teleporter.

Step 3: Place the shadow blocker next to the locked door (the second door of the building) just south of the Puddle in Science District (you will see the basic shadow torch schematic in the building).

Step 4: Use the Puddles to enter the Shadow realm. Run to the locked door and stand nearby the torch. Go and take the basic shadow torch schematic. Use the Blackstone fragment to return to the normal world. Pick up the shadow blocker.

Step 5: Teleport to Western Residential District and use the schematic on Ketla. Finish the dialog (Chat 5) and search the workbench to get the basic shadow torch.

11. Acquire the Revitalising idol.

Step 1: You will find another Puddle in Residential District, just southeast of the text of Residential District on the map. Go there and enter the Shadow realm.

Step 2: Destroy the tentacles directly southeast of Puddle. You can take the revitalising idol schematics in the Shadow realm or in the normal world.

Step 3: Return to Ketla and use the schematic on her.

Step 4: Search the workbench to get the revitalising idol.

12. Acquire the Superior shadow torch.

Step 1: In the normal world, enter the building where you got the revitalising idol schematics. Go through the southeastern door and activate the teleporter east of the building. Place the revitalising idol next to the southern wall of the northern building.

Step 2: Enter the Residential District shadow realm and run to the teleporter, then use the revitalising idol. Keep running to the doors west of the hole. Destroy the tentacles and take the Shadow key in the northwestern room.

Step 3: Leave the Shadow realm and pick up the revitalising idol.

Step 4: Place the Shadow blocker in front of the locked doors of the pub (south of the Western Residential District teleporter).

Step 5: Enter the Residential District Shadow realm and run west to the doors where you placed the blocker. Stand next to the blocker and unlock the door. You can take the superior shadow torch schematics in the Shadow realm or in the normal world. Don't forget to pick up the Shadow blocker in the normal world.

Step 6: Use the superior shadow torch schematics on Ketla and finish the dialog. (Chat 5)

Step 7: Search the workbench to get the superior shadow torch.

13. Acquire the Anima portal.

Step 1: Enter the shadow realm in the Science District. Run west, then north, past the northwestern building, to a stairway. Destroy the tentacle and take the anima portal schematic. Leave the shadow realm.

Step 2: Return to Ketla and use the schematics on her. Finish the dialog. (Chat 5)

Step 3: Search the workbench to get the anima portal.

14. Acquire the Perfected shadow torch.

Step 1: Enter the shadow realm in the science district. Run to the Northern Science District teleporter and destroy the tentacle. Go through another two doors and take the Shadow key. Leave the Shadow realm.

Step 2: Teleport to the Palace. Place the anima portal roughly in the center of the gray area directly northwest of the throne, in the center of the two braziers.

Step 3: Place the revitalising idol south of the throne.

Step 4: Teleport to the Plaza and enter the Shadow realm.

Step 5: Run northwest to the revitalising idol and use it. Keep running to the anima portal and light the four braziers around the chest. Then the ghosts will disappear. Open the chest to get the perfect shadow torch schematic.

Step 6: Leave the Shadow realm. Pick up the anima portal and the revitalising idol in the normal world.

Step 7: Return to Ketla and use the schematics on her. Finish the dialog.

Step 8: Enter the Residential District shadow realm and run to the pub. Go upstairs. Touch the remnant in the northeastern room. Be sure to finish the dialog!

Step 9: Enter the Shadow realm in the Residential District. Destroy the tentacles in front of both southwestern buildings. Leave the Shadow realm.

Step 10: Go and take the shadow key in the building. And place the shadow blocker next to the chest in another building (next to the teleporter icon).

Step 11: Enter the Shadow realm and open the chest to get the Icon segment.

Step 12: Teleport to Northern Science District. From there, run west, then north. Take the Shadow key in the northwest room.

Step 13: Enter the Shadow realm in the science district. Run south to the Southern Science District teleporter. Destroy the tentacles in front of the doors to the east. Open the chest in the east room to get another Icon segment. You can also return to the normal world and place the shadow blocker next to the chest, then enter the Shadow realm again to get the Icon segment. Leave the Shadow realm.

Step 14: Use one Icon segment on another to combine them.

Step 15: Return to Ketla and talk to her.

Step 16: Enter the Drain in the centre of the Residential District. If you cannot see the enter option. Touch the remnant on the second floor of the Pub in the Western Residential District in the Shadow realm. Again, be sure to finish the dialog. Then talk to Ketla again to gain access to the drain.

Step 17: Go through the gate, and follow the eastern path. Climb down the ladder and inspect the Ancient pillar to the west to play a cutscene.

Step 18 Finish all dialogs after the cutscene. Search the workbench to get the perfected shadow torch.

15. Enter the Shadow realm in the Residential District and run south. Destroy the tentacles blocking the way to the Sunken Cathedral. Leave the Shadow realm.

Now prepare for The Whisperer fight. It is weak to Mage.

16. After defeating the Whisperer, search her entrails for her medallion. If you die/teleport at the same time you kill it, just return and search her entrails.

You need to prepare for more battles before returning to the Ancient Vault. See the following section.

The Mahjarr Leagues

Items: Gear for two combat styles, Whisperer's medallion, Prayer potions, Food, Nardah teleports

1. Travel to the Ancient Vault and attempt to enter. You will find yourself in an odd area.

2. Search the bed to get a hairpin and use it to unlock the door.

3. Open the chest in the east room to retrieve your items.

4. Go to the west room and inspect the Alter to start fighting.

5. Pick up Whisperer's medallion. Bank for more supplies.

The Final Battle

Items: Ranged gear and a Toxic blowpipe are suggested, bring knives or dart if you use Melee, Anti-venom, Stamina potion, Prayer potions, Food

1. Return to the Ancient Vault and finish all dialogs.

2. Climb down the steps.

3. Kill the Assassin, Ketla, Kasonde, and Persten. You must kill all of them in one trip. You must start from the Assassin again if you die or leave.

4. Watch a custscene.

Congratulations! You have completed Desert Treasure II - The Fallen Empire.

Rewards

5 Quest points

Three ancient lamps, each offering 100,000 experience in Attack, Strength,Defence, Hitpoints Hitpoints, Ranged Ranged, Magic Magic, or Prayer Prayer

If the quest was completed prior to 28 July coldfix, two more ancient lamps can be claimed from the mysterious bandit in the Ancient Vault.

Ring of shadows

The ability to use Ancient rings.

The ability to repeat the four bosses encountered during the quest for unique rewards.
