OSRS Boss Guide of Deranged Archaeologist
The Deranged archaeologist is an easy-to-kill but powerful and dangerous boss in the OSRS game. You can find him at the south end of the Tar Swamp, on Fossil Island. You must have completed the OSRS quest Bone Voyage to gain access to the island.
Gear Setup & Inventory
The most effective way to kill him is to use Magic because his Magic level is low. The Better the gear, the faster kills! We suggest you have a Magic Level of 50+.
Recommended gear
A hat for Mage attack or Prayer bonus like the Mystic hat or a Mitre
The best top and bottom you can afford for the prayer bonus
Amulet of glory or better (Occult necklace if you have 70 Magic)
Imbued god cape or any cape for the prayer bonus
Iban's staff or any powered stave like Trident of the seas
Book of darkness or Tome of fire if you use Iban's staff
Barrows gloves or Holy wraps
Any godblessing
Devout boots or Holy sandals
Seers ring (i)
Inventory
2-3 Prayer potions
Antipoison or drink a dose of Antidote++ before going there
Digsite pendant (Fossil Island teleport option unlocked)
Ring of dueling to restore your stats and bank at Ferox Enclave
Rune pouch with runes to cast High Alchemy
Any Axe (chop swamp vine)
Rake (clear vines)
Some food
Getting there
The fastest way to get there is using the Magic Mushtree if you have unlocked the Mycelium Transportation System and the Hill teleport option of the Digsite pendant. Use it to teleport to the Sticky Swamp. Run south, cut the thick vine, and continue running south past the spined mushroom. If the mushrooms attack you, drink your Antipoison. Activate the Protect from Missiles (always on; drink your prayer potion when your prayer points are low) and climb over the rotting log to reach the boss.
Otherwise, teleport to the Digsite, take the Canal barge to Fossil Island, then run through the Swamp to reach it.
Fight
The Deranged archaeologist will attack you with Ranged and Melee (when you stand next to him in melee distance only). Keep away from him, and he will use Ranged attacks only.
Be aware of his special attacks when he says Learn to Read! He will throw three orange books toward you (one always lands where you stand, and it will burst into two additional books). And they will explode in a 5x5 (9x9 on rare occasions) area surrounding the original location of where you stand after 2.4 seconds of speaking of Learn to Read! It will damage you up to 92. The only way to avoid or reduce the damage is to stay away from him as much as possible.
Drop Value
The average drop is worth around 11,000 OSRS gold coins. If your level is too low, the risk of death will increase, and there will be consumption. In this way, there is no profit to kill this boss.
That's all for today. Thank you for reading.
