Osmumten's Fang - A Bugged Weapon Since Release
Two months have passed since the Tombs of Amascut launched. Osmumten's Fang has always been a hot topic, from the drop rate to its performance. But it is bugged!
What is the Bug?
In short, the Fang is overperforming because it is re-rolling incorrectly for both its accuracy and the NPC's defense. So you will find it has a high chance of hitting.
How Does the Bug Work?
Jagex gave us some examples to explain it. We can take a look together.
If an NPC's defensive roll was 10,000 and the player's accuracy roll was 8,000, the Fang would re-roll both values. If the NPC then rolled 4,000 and the player rolled 6,000, the attack would be considered a hit.
What does it mean? The hit chance. If there is no such bug, the attack result will be 0. But the game re-rolled both.
There are two more examples.
NPC Effective Defence is 30,000 VS Weapon Effective Accuracy is 35,000
Standard Roll (no re-rolling) - 57% Chance to Hit
Double Accuracy Roll (intended Fang re-rolling) - 76% Chance to Hit (31.9% improvement over Standard Roll)
Double Accuracy, Double Defence Roll (current Fang re-rolling) - 81% Chance to Hit (42.2% improvement over Standard Roll)
NPC Effective Defence is 60,000 VS Weapon Effective Accuracy is 35,000
Standard Roll - 29% Chance to Hit
Double Accuracy Roll - 39% Chance to Hit (35.3% improvement over Standard Roll)
Double Accuracy, Double Defence Roll - 50% Chance to Hit (72% improvement over Standard Roll)
Bug Fix
On Monday, October 31st, Jagex will fix the bug to make it re-roll the player's accuracy but not the NPC's defence. It will result in a lower hit rate for the Fang.
And also, some weapons, like the Scythe of Vitur, Dragon Hunter Lance, and Inquisitor's Mace, will play their roles again. We checked their prices and found they were all recovering. If you have spare OSRS gold, buy some of these weapons and wait. It will be a highly profitable investment. By the way, the price of the Fang will decrease.
